How to clean microwave with baking soda

Microwaves are wonderful appliances to have but sadly, different food residues can get left behind and accumulate inside your precious unit. If you just leave them be, further cooking might make those residues set, making them harder to remove.

For this process, remove the support ring and turntable first before sprinkling baking soda. Put the pieces in the sink or on the kitchen counter. Sprinkle some baking soda across the microwave’s bottom part.

Baking soda paste can also be used for cleaning your microwave. Just mix one part water and two parts baking soda. Use the butter knife for applying this paste inside your microwave.

You can also use soapy water for washing the turntable. Use hot water to moisten a clean cloth then thoroughly scrub all the inside walls and inside the door of the microwave. It can help remove even those stubborn stains and spills.

Don’t forget to wipe the support ring and turntable as well. Rinse the cloth then wipe your unit. Wring the cloth to remove the baking soda mixture and use hot water to moisten it. Rinse the cloth once again as needed until you wiped off all the baking soda traces from the microwave.

Complete the process by drying the support ring and turntable. Use a clean towel to wipe them down and put them back to the microwave.

Microwave the baking soda solution

Start by mixing one cup of water and two tablespoons of baking soda. Pour this mixture in an unsealed microwaveable container.

Microwave the baking soda solution for up to 3 minutes. Once the solution turns warm and releases steam, the baking soda will then absorb all odors from your microwave. The steams will clean the microwave’s walls and loosen any lodged oils and foods.

Allow the container to stand inside the unit for 15 minutes before removing it. Take note that the container might get very hot to the touch so don’t forget to wear oven mitts so you don’t burn yourself. Pour down the container’s content in the sink.

Wipe down your microwave with a lint-free cloth dampen with water. Wipe along the walls and the upper portion of the microwave. This can help get rid of any baking soda traces left behind that might have accumulated on the walls.

If you want to ensure the cleanliness of the support ring and turntable, you can take these out of the microwave to wipe them down separately. Keep the microwave door open to allow it to air dry. In case you are running short on time, you can just use a towel to wipe down the interior of the unit.
